As we progress milking sheep and learning more as we go.

We have been discussing whey a waste product from the cheese when seperating the curds and whey. We have though about a still apparently makes a decent Gin!

Probably make more money on gin! but the set up cost anyone got a spare few grand!

We settled for pigs.

These are our new arrivals on the farm - the Glostershire old spot pig. They have been weaned on Barley and Milk from the breeder. This is perfect for us as we can feed them on Barley and Whey. I started them on their new diet a couple of days ago. They are loving it.

We usually get pigs for our freezer this time of year so perfect use for our whey.

Recycling water. We cant use recyled water in our sheep cheese process. We can make use of the water after its been used on the garden for watering our plants. Not that we can see a drought happening any time soon!! We are collecting water thats fit for reuse.

Sheep update

We put ewes with a ram a little out of season and they didnt get pregnant. We decided to invest in more sheep and bought doset ewes as they lamb all year. We have put a milking ram with the dorsets and hoping we get a nice cross for milking. Milky sheep that lambs all year so we have milk all year. We have then put a dorset ram with our milking sheep so we get the same. Fingers crossed.

So all going ok here at the dairy still busy still learning as we go but all in all doing ok for a new enterprise in this climate. We are welcoming and appreciate all the support we are getting too. Really makes a difference so thankyou all you know who you are.
