We are milking about 30 sheep at present give or take. I thought I would share some photos of the process.
At present we havent weaned the first set of lambs so we are milking once a day. The first are to be weaned beginning of february.
First thing in the morning the Ewes are bought up from the field into thecollecting pen in the milking parlour
They go up the ram about 12 at a time and udders are cleaned whilst the sheep eat sheep corn
The milking Cups are put on the udders for milking and sheep are milked whilst the sheep are eating their corn
The ewes are then reunited with lambs for the day and get more food.
Once the sheep have finished eating they are let out into the field. Zac has got used to taking the sheep out to the field with their lambs. shame we cant train him to shut the field gate!!
The milk is collected an stored at correct tempready for cheese making.
The parlour is then cleaned down ready to go again tomorrow.
New bacth of cheese has matured and is now ready to buy from the farm, online or at farmers markets.
